GlassFest Celebrates Glass and the Fire Arts in Corning, N.Y.
 
Corning, N.Y.—The ninth annual GlassFest, May 24–27, 2018, is a celebration of glass and the fire arts in America’s Crystal City. Presented by Corning’s Gaffer District and Chemung Canal Trust Company, GlassFest draws thousands of visitors to downtown Corning, N.Y., each year on Memorial Day weekend.
 
GlassFest kicks off on Thursday, May 24, with the Glass Ribbon Cutting ceremony held at The Corning Museum of Glass at 5:30 PM, followed by a special edition 2300°: GlassFest party from 6–8 PM. The festival continues in Corning’s Gaffer District for three more days of live glassmaking demonstrations, glass exhibits and artwork, wine and craft beer tasting, live music, a spectacular fireworks display, family-friendly activities, an 8K race, museums and galleries, and special shopping and dining promotions for the weekend. There is no entrance fee and unless otherwise noted, most activities are free.

Watch live glassmaking demonstrations featuring gaffers from The Corning Museum of Glass on stage in Centerway Square on Friday, Saturday  and Sunday.
 
Returning this year with great anticipation following the debut last year, visitors can attend the GlassFest Featured Artist Stroll & Reception on May 24, at 8:30 pm join us at Gustin's Gallery and join the stroll to see the extraordinary work of Fire Artists: Mavin Ambrose (ceramic), Stephen Brucker (glass and driftwood), Fred Herbst (ceramic), Jessi Moore (glass), Matthew Mroz (glass, steel, iron), Amy Ruza, Tony Moretti and Gwen Quigley (glass and iron), Aric Snee (glass) and Chrissy Lapham (glass) the stroll concludes with a reception at The ARTS Council gallery.  Or feel free to stroll the exhibit throughout the weekend at Gustin's Gallery, 36 East Market Street, West End Gallery and The ARTS Council. 
 
MASTERPIX™ Fine Glass Prints is proud to sponsor the MASTERPIX™ Fine Glass Prints Scavenger Hunt again this year and is giving away photos printed on Corning® Gorilla® Glass that feature scenic images of downtown Corning. The grand prize giveaways will be glass prints of various sizes with display stands, plus MASTERPIX will print a photo of your choice in a matching size.
 
The Finger Lakes Wine and Craft Beer Tasting event is Friday night, May 25 from 5–8pm, featuring more than 25 local wineries and breweries. Tickets are $18 per person in advance (available exclusively at the Information     Center at Centerway Square) or $20 that evening. Price includes both a collectible wine and beer glass. Adults must be 21 years or older to participate.
 
“GlassFest is everything we envisioned when we launched nine years ago, an event that celebrates our history and future as the Crystal City. It is four days of extraordinary, memory-making fun for every age surrounded by the spectacular art, science, and innovation of glass. It’s impossible to resist once you have experienced it!” said Coleen Fabrizi, executive director of Corning’s Gaffer District.
 
Rock The Park, sponsored by Simmons-Rockwell Auto Dealerships, is the GlassFest signature FREE concert series on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Live music will be featured in Riverfront Centennial Park all three days. Friday, May 25th  from 8:30-10:00 PM The same band members of DSB, the crowd favorite Journey tribute band will perform hits from AC/DC, Bon Jovi, Night Rider, Metallica, Loverboy, Foreigner, Toto and many more.  This is one show you must see! Saturday, May 26th the soundstage kicks off from 6:30-7:45 PM with Lucky Number, Saturday, followed by DSB from 8:15-9:45 PM.  The area's favorite Journey Tribute band, DSB, returns to perform your favorite Journey songs.  Since 2009, DSB's high energy stage production and accurate recreations of Journey classics have made them the #1 Journey Tribute Show in the world.  Followed by Fireworks at 9:45 PM. Sunday, May 27th at 12:00 PM Quentin Harriger takes the stage, followed by Ayla Brown & Rob Bellamy from 1:00-2:30 PM our featured artist is Nashville sensation, Tony Jackson from 3:00-4:30 PM.  All fallen soldiers will be honored by the Corning American Legion Honor Guard, the names of those featured in the Hometown Hero Program will be read aloud. There will also be Military Displays and booths in the park, The Memorial Day tribute will conclude with presentations from the VFW Ritual Team, and a very special surprise (weather permitting).
 
Throughout Saturday and Sunday, visitors can wander along Market Street to view the works of art by local and regional artists, and to take advantage of special promotions offered by businesses and restaurants in Corning’s Gaffer District. Families will enjoy plenty of fun activities including face painting, inflatables, Marvelous Mutts Canine Spectacular and much more.
 
At The Corning Museum of Glass, visitors can explore the re-added Contemporary Art + Design Wing, which features a 26,000-square-foot day-lit gallery building, showcasing the best of the last 25 years in glass. During GlassFest visitors can view the Tiffany’s Glass Mosaics. The wing also houses the Amphitheater Hot Shop which is the world’s largest space for glassblowing demonstrations and live glass design sessions, accommodating 500 people.
