Corning, NY — Corning’s Gaffer District welcomes Card Carrying Books & Gifts, at 15 East Market Street Suite 102, to Corning’s downtown. The socially progressive bookstore will open for business on Tuesday, Sept. 5.
Business partners Sarah Blagg and Randi Hewitt would like to invite the public to the grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, Sept. 15 from 5–8pm. Join Sarah and Randi for a reception featuring entertainment and social justice conversation following the ribbon cutting.
Card Carrying Books & Gifts will provide books, statement apparel, jewelry and other giftables that support small, women-owned businesses and artists. The shop will offer fiction and nonfiction books for children, young adults and adults with socially progressive ideals. Card Carrying Books & Gifts is the exclusive retailer of Urban Corning merchandise. There will be monthly events such as book signings, crafting nights and workshops. Shoppers can also sign up for the Card Carrying Club, a monthly subscription kit that delivers a dose of feminism and activism in the form of new books and apparel to its members.
“Randi and I decided to open Card Carrying Books & Gifts so we could help Corning encourage and build a feminist future for the many young people in our lives,” Sarah Blagg said. “Our mission is to provide the community with books and gifts that support socially progressive ideals, and to also provide a space where education and inclusion are apparent. We both have backgrounds in the nonprofit world, and truly feel that no one will make the changes you want to see unless you are also willing to do the legwork.”
“Guests at Card Carrying Books & Gifts can expect an airy atmosphere, a cozy reading book and window seat, and a place to meet people of similar ideals,” Blagg said.
“We are delighted to welcome Card Carrying Books & Gifts to the business mix of Corning’s Gaffer District; we are very excited to welcome another retail shop and delighted to have a new bookstore that features a cozy reading spot,” Coleen Fabrizi, Executive Director for Corning’s Gaffer District, said.
Current hours for Card Carrying Books & Gifts are Monday through Thursday 10am–6pm, Friday and Saturday 10am–8pm and Sunday 12pm–4pm.
