Corning, NY—April 5, 2017—Corning's Gaffer District stands among more than 200 downtowns across the nation, in the America's Main Street contest hosted by Independent We Stand, an organization that supports independently owned businesses and encourages people to buy local. www.mainstreetcontest.com.
The America's Main Street contest, recognizes the economic benefits of Main Streets and the small businesses that help them thrive. The winner will receive a $25,000 prize to support revitalization.
Executive Director for Corning's Gaffer District, Coleen Fabrizi stated, "Our downtown is a remarkable example of resilience and determination. Following the flood of 1972 the community worked passionately to rebuild and the transformation is nothing short of spectacular. Downtown Corning has been recognized for our continued restoration of our historic buildings, signature events featuring glass and music, and our Shop Local spirit by Country Living Magazine, HuffPost.com, TripAdvisor, Bon Appetit and the American Bus Association. Corning's Gaffer District is filled with small businesses and big experiences! If we were chosen as the winner for the America's Main Street contest the prize would further support summer programming and activities that really help encourage the people that live and work here to Shop Local and invest in their own community."
Now through April 24, everyone can cast their votes online every 24 hours for America's most deserving Main Street. The top 25 quarterfinalists will move on to the next round of voting, which will take place from May 1–28, 2017.
Ultimately 10 semifinalists will be rated by a panel of contest judges, with a winner announced on June 5, 2017.
