Corning, NY - Donna's Restaurant will celebrate it's 30th year in business on Wednesday, April 1.
Located at the corner of 48 E. Market Street, in Corning's Historic Downtown, Donna's has served breakfast, brunch and lunch as a celebrated community staple for the past three decades. The restaurant's owner, Donna Robbins, has more experience at that location than the anniversary would suggest, however.
Donna has worked in the restaurant business for fifty years. Incredibly, the restaurateur has spent that time at the same Corning address, since age 16. Donna worked at the corner location when it was known as Bacalles Soda Bar, and continued her time there when it was the popular Kozy Korner restaurant. In 1985, she jumped at the opportunity to purchase the location and gave it the name it has now.
Like any place that has been in business for 30 years, Donna's has had its share of good and bad times. When asked about her time spent on Market Street as a business owner, Donna is quick to recall her favorite memories as a member of the Corning community.
"The best part of being in business here," said Ms. Robbins, "is being a part of the downtown, and really embracing the opportunity to become more than just a restaurant. I'm a part of the community."
"Donna's Restaurant exemplifies what it means to be a locally owned business, dedicating her life's work to creating a wonderful experience for her customers and making a significant difference in her community, because it was her heartfelt passion to do so," said Coleen Fabrizi, Executive Director of Corning's Gaffer District.
"We're so proud to have a business like Donna's in our downtown and we wish her continued joy and success."
Like many local, independently owned businesses, Donna's Restaurant relies on the support of the community and its regular customers.
"I'm so glad to have met so many great people in my time working here," added Ms. Robbins. "The people who come in everyday have become much more than just customers; they've become my friends and family."
Known for her homemade desserts, and as a thank you to those who have supported her throughout the years, Donna will hand out homemade cupcakes to the customers who visit on April 1.
